Hunger for Peace: Faces, Paths and Cultures
A Conference of the Latin American Historic Peace Churches
November 28 - December 3, 2010
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Representing the Church of the Brethren, Mennonites and Friends, approximately 60-80 persons from Latin America will be invited to participate in this conference, the fourth and final of a series of Historic Peace Church Conferences. They will share their personal stories of working for peace, as well as bring relevant theological thought to bear upon this most critical issue. Previous conferences were held in Switzerland in 2001, Kenya in 2004 and Indonesia in 2007.
The purposes of the conference include to nurture peace theology and activity within our three communities, build relationships among them, and contribute to preparations for the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation which will take place in 2011 and conclude the Decade to Overcome Violence.
Friends on the Steering Committee that will plan and organize the conference are Loida Fernández, General Meeting of Mexican Friends and Executive Secretary of FWCC's Committee of Latin American Friends (COAL) and Aminda Posada de Arévalo, clerk of the Yearly Meeting of the Evangelical Friends Church of El Salvador. Paul Mitchell, North Carolina Yearly Meeting (FUM) and member of FWCC's Executive Committee, serves in a support position. Benigno Sánchez-Eppler, New England Yearly Meeting, is providing interpreting and translating guidance.
FWCC Section of the Americas is delighted to be able to support this Peace Conference financially through its restricted peace-related funds.
